The majority of individuals who spend weeks (at times months) reading about a nose job end up with indecision. They scroll at night through before-and-after photos, scrutinize other people’s noses, and then marvel about whether it is an overreaction. Perhaps they are. It is obsessed with the anxiousness, but that anxiety is real, and it often boils down to this one fear: what if it no longer looks like me?
Before booking anything, that fear is worth tackling. Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty Center: Deepak Dugar, MD, performs the closed rhinoplasty technique, which is performed completely from within the nose. No outer incisions, no exposed scarring, and nothing that would lead one to believe anything was done. This is the first approach worth educating yourself on if you have been postponing the decision because you are afraid of looking “done.”
Open Vs Closed (and Why It Matters)
Many more surgeons fall back on open rhinoplasty. This is the method that is more frequently taught, and it allows the surgeon an improved visualization of the anatomy. The trade-off is a small cut across the columella, that delicate band of tissue between your nostrils. For so many patients, it does fine- heal. For others, the scar stays. With closed rhinoplasty, there is no need for that external incision at all.
All alterations are done via indentations marked within the nostrils. And the reason this looks natural is also that the structure under it wasn’t taken apart and put back together. More of its original architectural form remains in the nose.
What Can Actually Be Fixed with Closed Rhinoplasty
One may think a scarless approach is limited in its results. That’s not the case. Dr. Dugar has employed this method for bulbous nose tips, dorsal humps, and wide nasal bones, as well as drooping tips. Patients with breathing difficulties can also undergo septoplasty during the same operation to restore function and aesthetics at the same time.
The important thing is that your nose has to be evaluated individually. Closed rhinoplasty also has indications. Not every nose can undergo closed rhinoplasty. The open approach may also be necessary for those who have had major revision surgeries before or scarred noses from previous procedures. Dr. Dugar will tell you how it is, and if a closed approach isn’t for you, he’ll let you know.
The “Perfect Nose” Problem
Here’s something you rarely hear: the point isn’t perfection. DrDugar at Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty Center is Harmonious/ that means your nose should fit your face, not someone else’s.
Particularly online, there is a tendency to screenshot someone’s nose and take it along to a consultation as the desired image. That’s understandable. That looks good on one face, but it isn’t going to be perfect for another. Different people have different angles, and we all can not have the same proportions and bone structure. A good surgeon doesn’t fight with what you have; he works with it.
What Candidacy Actually Looks Like
Before a surgery is even planned, you undergo an extensive physical examination. What Qualifies a Person as a Board Candidate? Being generally healthy, having completed facial growth, and knowing what to expect in terms of results are all key factors that govern what ultimately makes someone an appropriate candidate.
Age matters too. Patients with an immature nasal structure cannot qualify. The permanent change may require that your nose be done growing.
How Long Does the Procedure Take
Standard closed rhinoplasty, in a Beverly Hills rhinoplasty center, lasts from one to two hours. The nose can take longer up to an hour or two if it has a more complex shape or a structural issue. And that extra time is not a bad thing. It means the surgeon is taking their time, not going too quickly.
Recovery: What the First Couple of Weeks Looks Like
Day 1 – Rest. On the first day or three after your surgical procedures, if you need relaxation. Swelling and discomfort are expected. Dr. Dugar will recommend an appropriate dose of Tylenol based on your case. You won’t be able to do it for the first couple of weeks, you have to be careful brushing your teeth and eating anything that would chew heavily.
During this initial period, they have maintained a nasal cast. For a period of approximately six weeks, direct sunlight and vigorous physical activity are prohibited. Additionally, we only clear some patients for light aerobic activity as early as week 3 and again, this has to be without pain or swelling.
The nose rests in its final shape for about a year. That is not a failing of the process. That is just the way that nasal tissue heals.
Part of the process is regular check-ins.
Recovery is not an individual sport. Dr. Dugar plans for frequent follow-up visits during the healing period to monitor your healing and intervene if issues arise at an early phase of recovery. It matters more than most think that you have that continued relationship. Much of the stress about surgery arises from what seems to be being abandoned after surgery.
Before You Book
Most likely, if you’ve never had nose surgery before, you are a good candidate for Dr. Dugar’s closed rhinoplasty! The place to confirm this is during the consultation. Go in with your real worries, not a photo-shopped face of someone else. Inquire about your own anatomy, timeline for recovery, and the achievable resultant shape based on your physiology.
Deciding to do something to your appearance is a personal journey. You want an outcome that embodies a better, more attractive version of you not a trace of a technique. This is what good closed rhinoplasty does.
